Berry Fascinating Strawberry Facts

  • Despite the terrible berry pun above, strawberries are not true berries. A berry has its seeds on the inside. Strawberries are closer related to roses than they are to blueberries and raspberries.
  • Strawberries are the only fruit to dawn its seeds on the outside of its sweet fleshy body. With an average of 200 or so seeds on every strawberry.
  • California produces about 80 percent of America’s strawberries. Each year, they grow about 2 billion pounds.
  • To extend the life of strawberries, wash them in a bowl of equal parts water and vinegar. The vinegar destroys the cell walls of bacteria and fungi which can quickly rot the fruit. (Rinse with water after the wash.)

We hope to see you at this great event and that you use these facts to wow your fellow strawberry patrons.
