Golf Facts to “Wow” Your Friends

  • There are anywhere from 300 to 500 dimples on a golf ball.
  • The game we know as golf was invented in Scottland over 500 years ago (sixteenth century), but the Chinese had a similar game that dates back to 943 A.D.
  • Golf is the only (Earthly) sport to have been played outside of the planet. On February 6, 1971, Alan Shepard hit two golf balls on the lunar surface.
  • Up until the mid 19th century, golf balls were made out of the feathers. They would be boiled and then stuffed into a leather pouch which would then be sewed into ball form. The very first golf balls in the 16th century were likely made of wood.
